Due to the delays caused by the global corona pandemic, the INTERREG V large-scale project Food Pro·tec·ts has been extended by half a year until the end of 2020, so that all ongoing activities can be completed. Also the originally planned final event of the project, where the developed products and results should be presented, could not take place due to corona. As an alternative GIQS is now working on several small final films to present the project results.

The first day of shooting for the recordings took place at the end of August on the Klein-Altendorf research campus of the University of Bonn. This was where the project partners came together, who have developed various innovative products under the keyword “biomass use” during the four-year project period. Together with the team of Media Brüggemann from Mönchengladbach, the project partners were interviewed and the resulting products were presented, such as a novel fertilizer made from wastewater and sewage sludge, biochar from agricultural waste or food waste, as well as novel substrates based on the innovative bedding material Miscanthus, which have improved soil properties.

In the coming weeks, the results of the Food Pro·tec·ts activities in the areas of sensor technology, plasma and animal welfare will also be documented on film. Further filming dates are planned for this purpose in Venlo, Kleve, Bad Sassendorf, ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Bonn, among others. A presentation of all films is planned for the end of the project.

Food Pro·tec·ts is implemented under the INTERREG V A programme Deutschland-Nederland and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, MWIDE NRW and the provinces of Gelderland, Limburg and Noord-Brabant. It is accompanied by the programme management of the Euregio Rhein-Waal.
