Supervisory Board

Elected members

The Supervisory Board consists of up to three members who are elected by the General Assembly. In addition, the Supervisory Board may be extended by up to three additional persons who do not have to be members of the association. The term of office of the members of the supervisory board is three years.

Prof. Dr. Martin Hamer

Prof. Dr. Martin Hamer was honorary Chairman of the Board of GIQS from 2013 to 2017. He was employed by GIQS from 2005 to 2014. Martin Hamer was elected to the honorary Supervisory Board in December 2021 and took over as Chairman of the Supervisory Board in October 2022. Since 2014 he is Managing Director of the International Centre for Sustainable Development (IZNE) and Professor of Soils and Biomass at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS).

Dr. Helmut W. Saatkamp

Dr. Helmut W. Saatkamp last served as secretary from September 2012 to November 2014. The General Meeting elected him as a member of the Supervisory Board newly created in November 2014. Dr. Saatkamp teaches at the Social Science Faculty of Wageningen University (Business Economics Group); his special field is economic issues in the field of animal breeding and husbandry.

Johan Zandbergen

Johan Zandbergen was treasurer of GIQS e.V. from September 2012 to November 2014. The general meeting elected him as a member of the Supervisory Board newly created in November 2014. He studied Business Administration and Computer Science and is founder and managing director of ChainPoint in Arnhem, the Netherlands. His field of activity is the development and implementation of information systems for Chain Information Management, focusing on quality and risk management and sustainability in agricultural and food chains.

Prof. Dr. Brigitte Petersen

Prof. Dr. Brigitte Petersen was chairman of the association from its foundation in 2001 until November 2013 and deputy chairman from November 2013 until 2014. In November 2014 she was elected to the honorary Supervisory Board, which she chaired until 2022. She is also a founding member of the FoodNetCenter of the University of Bonn and was speaker of the Clusteroffensive Bonn.realis. Since 2015, Brigitte Petersen has been a founding member and honorary chair of the board of the European cooperative EQAsce (Education and Qualification Alliance). From 1985 to 2020, she held the Chair of the Department of Preventive Health Management at the Faculty of Agriculture at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn. She also headed this department from 1991.
